    Workplace Rent regulation has been exploiting

    President of the Istanbul Commodity Exchange Ali Kopuz stated in his press release that there were those who exploited the rent regulation on both sides to ensure the continuity of commercial life, and said that there was a need for regulation in this regard.

     

    The İSTİB President Ali Kopuz, hence the outbreak of coronavirus related to the precautions taken in Turkey : “Since the epidemic started, our country has been struggling both in the health and economic and social fields as well as in the whole world. Turkey is fighting successfully on both fronts of the epidemic is getting promising developments, "he said.

     

    In his statement, Kopuz also mentioned the measures taken to regulate the economic life and said, "Our government has implemented many measures from tax and social security arrangements to advantageous loans to reduce the impact of the epidemic on our economic and social life." 

     

    Stating that these measures are renewed and developed every day, İSTİB President Ali Kopuz mentioned the arrangement regarding one of the measures, the workplace rents and said: 

     

    “As it is known, this decision was put into practice with Provisional Article 2 of the“ Law Amending Some Laws ”published in the Official Gazette dated March 26, 2020. “Failure to pay the rental price to be processed from 1/3/2020 until 30/6/2020 does not constitute a reason for termination and evacuation of the lease.” This legal arrangement in the form means:

     

    Workplace owners cannot terminate the workplace rent agreement and evacuate their tenants, since rents for the period between March 2020 and June 2020 are not paid.

     

    However, it is also clear that the provisions in this regulation do not provide an exemption in terms of not paying the rent debt. In other words, tenants could not get rid of the obligation to pay the rent based on this article. With this regulation, it is aimed to prevent the termination of the workplace lease contracts by the lessor in order to maintain the commercial life.

     

    Unfortunately, this good-faith arrangement is exploited by some people from both sides. Some tenants consider it an opportunity not to pay their rents. Some business owners are squeezing their tenants, who have never done business, to pay their rent immediately.

     

    There are many complaints from our members in this regard. I believe that an arrangement will be made as soon as possible and the victimization will be prevented. ”
