    As we leave 2023 behind

The first quarter of the 21st century left behind witnessed major changes in the world in every sense. During this process, we encountered many innovations that we had never seen in our lives. We met with artificial intelligence, drones, UAVs and Sihas. We have witnessed the removal of physical borders in the world with E-commerce and E-Export. We experienced a major global financial crisis and a pandemic that paralyzed the world in every way.

As Türkiye, we have been affected by global and regional developments in various dimensions. İn addition to the influence of all these events, the year 2023 started with the disaster of the century for us. We were shaken by one of the biggest earthquakes in history. We are leaving behind a difficult year marked by inflation, drought and wars in our hinterland. Nevertheless, we have never stopped facing all these challenges.Government instutions and citizens worked hand in hand to heal the wounds of the earthquake. At the same time, we managed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our republic without losing hope.

Türkiye’s economy managed to grow 4, 3.9 and finally 5.9 percent in the first three quarters of 2023, respectively. The service sector and domestic demand, namely private household consumption, also contributed to this growth.

Despite the global problems of recent years and the earthquakes in February, we will finish this year with growth rates well above the G20 and OECD country averages. Nevertheless, we expect relatively modest growth rates for both Turkey and the global market in 2024. In addition to price stability, issues such as the new green deal  and both food safety and security will continue to remain important.

Istanbul Commodity Exchange, as one of the well- recognized public institutions of both Istanbul and Türkiye for 100 years, will continue to prepare its members for the world of tomorrow by constantly improving its institutional capability and increasing its service quality in a manner befitting the 2nd Century of the Republic of Türkiye.
